Burnout doesn’t have to define your career
Learn the common mistakes to avoid
Have you ever felt trapped in a never-ending routine with too much work and too little recognition?
I did...
I was too busy managing day to day, and reacting to events. As a consequence I didn’t derive any pleasure from my life.
On one hand, I was overstretched to the point of burnout, and on the other, I didn’t learn anything new that would really excite me, so I didn’t have much to look forward to
Or so I thought.
Of course, I had many things and people in my life to be perfectly happy, but I wasn’t.
Little by little, I felt like my life batteries were dwindling.
Fatigue became a constant companion, although I slept well.
I would require a massive amount of effort to complete a task.
Next, I noticed the need for more motivation for work-related and everyday tasks.
Even when I scaled back the tasks, took some me-time, and practiced a lot of self-care, nothing really worked
At this point, I started to worry because, you see, I was always an A-player, working through the midnight candle if you get my grip.
I used to love my work, and at that point, I had 20+ years of professional experience.
But,
I became disheartened, discontent, and disillusioned with work
I was quite frankly unhappy with my accomplishments (yes, I was still producing good results, to my astonishment)
And then I would also occasionally “lose it” with a colleague.
Long story short: I was burned out.
The definition of burnout is pretty straightforward.
Burnout refers to a state of emotional and physical exhaustion that results from poorly managed workplace stress (Maslach, 2003; Maslach & Jackson, 1981).
It took a lot of deep inner work to figure out how to help myself.
In my quest to reclaim my life, I stumbled upon an invaluable strategy: Eating the Elephant.
Just like the saying goes: “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
This approach to tackling big goals is a game-changer:
Break Down Big Goals: Instead of one overwhelming target, create smaller, manageable tasks.
Celebrate Small Wins: Each small victory fuels your motivation and keeps your energy high.
Stay Vigilant: Remember, failure isn’t an option. Stay focused and forge ahead!
